The BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) is a celebration of independent short film from around the world. It supports emerging and established filmmakers by providing an outlet for the appreciation and discussion of their practice. Films screened at the festival are eligible to enter the BAFTA British Short Film and Animation Awards.
ASFF takes place annually at the beginning of November in York, UK. Transforming the city’s most iconic locations through cinema, the festival invites audiences to create their own unique viewing experience and discover films from emerging and established practitioners working within the global filmmaking community.
The festival programme includes film screenings in the genres: advertising, animation, artists’ film, comedy, dance, documentary, drama, experimental, fashion, music video and thriller. There is also a family friendly programme for younger audiences and special screenings from our guest countries, which include China, Brazil and Cuba for 2015.
ASFF’s masterclass series provides an opportunity to connect with industry leaders. The festival welcomes speakers from major film organisations, including creative agency White Lodge (Vogue, Karen Millen and Louis Vuitton), the Association of Camera Operators, Oscar and BAFTA Award Winning VFX Giant Framestore and many others.
The festival’s events also provide networking opportunities and include Meet the Film Festivals and Meet the Filmmakers. These enable audiences to connect with programmers and find out exactly what festivals from around the world are looking for, while hearing directly from filmmakers whose work is at the heart of ASFF.
